Monday, the aroma of flowers filled the air for Kelley Leligren as she heard the words “You Got Flowered” by Kelley & Cassandra LIVE on 1380 the woman. Always in Bloom Florist, flowered Kelley in front of her High School Classroom in Collinville, IL. Kelley Leligren is a Breast Cancer Survivor and fighting the battle again. The Month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness and we asked listeners to nominate a strong beautiful woman in their life fighting the battle against Breast Cancer. I’d like to nominate a Mrs. Kelley Liljegren for the Breast Cancer Survivor Nominee.
After losing one of my very best friends, Sam Bartos, to what started as breast cancer last month, I have had the opportunity to walk with, speak with and talk intimately with Kelley about her current battle. I continue to be in awe of what a happy positive spirit Kelley has. Ten years ago almost the month she was diagnosed with breast cancer, and after chemo, radiation and a full mastectomy and subsequent surgeries she beat this awful disease, like any super hero would. After she was diagnosed again, she reminisced about the past 10 years and how she has been so fortunate and now is ready to start this battle again. Kelley has decided to approach cancer as if it were her opponent in her beloved sport basketball. Her Caringbridge entries are so inspirational always using clever basketball terms, referring to the drs as her coaching staff and her family as the strength & conditioning coaches. She refers to all her friends and supporters as her team, the scans and tests as the scouting reports and treatment as the game plan.
Her courage, positive outlook and perseverance makes her more than worthy of this award. She is a devoted and loving mother to 3 stellar children and married to her soul mate who is a stand up man. She is also a role model to all the high school children she teaches at Collinsville High School.
