As the sun was shining we gathered with friends and family to celebrate a birthday and a graduation. As time passed the party was coming to an end and it was time to leave. We had taken some extra time to decide ‘do we have the top up or down on the car’? I needed to fix my seat just one extra time.
Every minute a choice is made and a change will take place. Those few extra seconds put us just a few seconds late from the car that had been torn apart as it crashed hitting another until the final wheel stopped spinning.
It was as if time were moving in slow motion. Could this really be happening? Are we really seeing this? Help! Somebody help! Make time stop, please let this not be happening. Make what I am seeing not be real. Make time go back.
Can we ever understand how just minutes ago we were celebrating and in the next we are witnessing a life ending. Her time here on earth had ended yet time will still move forward. To have just laughed and hugged, to have sang and danced, to have talked and smiled for a very last time. We couldn’t save her…she was gone instantly! A life that had just barely begun, ended. A mother’s child was gone in a second. The ambulances were arriving and the helicopter landed as they both raced against time to save precious lives.
Time seemed to stand still while seconds kept ticking. Time is of the essence so they say. What few seconds took her life and what few seconds seem to save ours? How much time if any will ever take the pain away? How can time heal? Will time ever remove the images from our minds? Where will time take us?
Please take time to turn off your cell phones when driving and always wear your seat belt. Take time to let someone else drive if you have been drinking alcohol. Take time to always say, “I love you”. Don’t ever waste time as it is precious to the very last second.
